The Lazy Days of Summer?

School is out pretty soon. I spent the week getting things on the calendar knowing that more things have yet to be scheduled.

I would say my visions of sipping lemonade by a pool are clearly delusional.

12 on the 12th

You'd think when you have one child that has a birthday on the 11th, you'd have no problem remembering the next day was the 12th. But nope, it didn't occur to me until late in the afternoon. So saved it for the 13th this month.

1. Chris off to work around 7:00 every morning.
2. Morgan continuing to enjoy riding her bike to school. She has a flat tire, so she's been riding Garrett's bike.
3. A few minutes together before Garrett is off to school. Garrett has never been late for school, but every morning I hear, "c'mon, I'm going to be late". EVERY MORNING!
4. Jack started out with the trains inside, but moved them outside.
5. We ran some errands and after the last store Jack said, "Let's go get chicken nuggets, french fries, and chocolate milk." And we did. And we don't do that very often, but this was the first time he asked and he had such a cute smile on his face I couldn't turn him down.
6. A view of the garden. It's growing!
7. Jack has rediscovered the sand box. Unfortunately the lid was left off during some storms, so it's really wet sand.
8. This little guy isn't looking so little. He's 4 months away from turning 3.
9. Morgan is the family gardener. She's watering the garden before heading off to gymnastics with the help of her little assistant.
10. Garrett in the final regular match against a team at Round Hill Country Club.
11. He came up to me before this putt telling me that he had a rough round, but ending up parring that hole with a nice long putt.
12. This picture represents what I did for the last half of the day. In summary, I picked up the kids at 3:00, dropped off Morgan, drove Garrett to the tournament which was about 20 miles away, returned home and picked up Morgan to take her to gymnastics, ran a couple errands, then headed back to the country club. Garrett thought he'd be done around 6:00, we didn't leave until 7:15. He also arranged for 2 boys to come over to work on a group project. So I drove Garrett and his teammate to the house and without even getting out of the car, turned around and picked up Morgan. Pulled in the garage at 8:20 and had put 104 miles on my car since 3:00. I think the only reason I'm smiling is because Chris was able to watch Jack so I didn't have to listen to Life Is a Highway over and over (although that is quite fitting!).

NSD

NSD=National Scrapbook Day.

Bet you didn't have that date on your calendar. As it turns out it was my friend Robin's birthday and Robin is a scrapbooker so guess what I did that day?

Used lots of My Mind's Eye paper and really like how this one came out. Those are pictures from a golf tournament over spring break.

Crate Paper. With all this rain, glad Jack enjoys playing in it.

This is a lift (nearly identical) of one of my new favorite scrapbookers. I honestly could copy everything she does and when I grow up, I want to scrap just like her! Oh wait, I love to scraplift, so technically I already scrap like her. Ha!

And I liked it so much, I did it again :)

Here are Morgan's school pictures and since I'm just about done with her k-5 album, I finally got around to doing this first page in her book. (I've yet to do Garrett's, so I'm just going to copy this).

This was an old layout that I redid using BG Max and Whiskers. It was on the back side of the other page that I gave a makeover to. I promise I'm not redoing the whole book, just maybe a few pages here and there.

Not sure how much scrapbooking time I'll carve out the rest of the month, but I have lots of supplies and pictures calling my name.

If it's not fun, you're not doing it right...

14 years old

So birthdays and 14 year old boys are kind of a non-event. I'm sure I won't be saying this when Morgan is 14, but everything about a 14 year old birthday needs to be understated. Party...no, just wants to hang out with friends. Invites via email (not even Evite), dinner, movie, cake-but no candles and singing, sleepover and sleeping in till almost 9:00.

But all bets are off when it's my day to celebrate with my boy :) I don't have kids turning 14 everyday so I wanted to make the day special.
Garrett has had the same pay as you go phone since fifth grade and despite going through the washer and dryer, that thing would not die, much to Garrett's dismay. Garrett's been a little vague about what kind of phone he wanted because ultimately it needs to work with the phone plan that we are willing to pay for. So we decided to give him cash and let him decide.
So I made this cake

If you can't read texting language it says Are you 14? Happy Birthday. You are great.

And then I found this

How perfect was this? So now, what do I do about the money? Take a look.

I did good if I do say so myself! It's not easy getting this type of expression from a 14 year old.

Happy Birthday Garrett!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Ta Da!!

I know, this is not terribly exciting, but yet another one of Morgan's ideas- something she's been bugging us to do for several years. We found some planters online and were all set to order them, but a trip to Costco changed our plans. They had this whole kit in a box, just the right size for our space.

The kit also came with a humongous bag of nails. If you know us, that is usually something we try to avoid. But it turned into a family effort over several weekends putting together the beds one at a time. Finally we got a free weekend and some beautiful weather and were able to finish it up.

Tomatoes, bell peppers, strawberries, squash, zucchini, some herbs like basil, rosemary, parsley, and mint and a some butterfly attracting plants and we're just waiting for our garden to grow.

She's Crafty Like Her Mama

Morgan and I have more than light brown hair and freckles in common. She loves a good craft.
She found a series of video tutorials on easy sewing project and in total Morgan fashion, took the project on herself and figured it out. This purse is made from a tank top, the handles are the straps of the tank top. Unlike her Mama, she's already figuring out how to market these. She came home with a friend's tank top today.
