The Last Line of Defense

Ugh...
you know there are certain milestones you rejoice when achieved.
There is no celebration here. In fact, if you thought you heard hoots and hollers you are mistaken. What you most definitely hear is, "Jack, don't open that!", "Jack, put that back!", "Jack, you better not touch that!" Could somebody please invent some real childproof latches?

Rainbow Day

I LOVED this idea from the It Is What It Is blog. I immediately bookmarked it. Jack's school doesn't really celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but last week they did have rainbow day and this was just perfect for the occasion.
The pictures above are the ones Morgan made for her friends yesterday, but for Jack's class I decided to modify it a bit. It just seemed like a lot of candy for a three year olds so I cut the licorice and half and only put in one large chocolate gold coin. I think my chocolate gold coins are bigger than the original ones, so it worked fine. Anyway, they were easy to find the supplies and assemble and were definitely the hit of the day.

Awesome

With kids ranging from 3 1/2 to almost 15, the course of discipline I choose varies greatly. With Jack, a 3 minute trip to time out against the wall is usually effective. I have to get much more creative with my older two. Taking things away (and yes, they have a lot of electronics to choose from) is a standby favorite. I've also learned that refusing to take them anywhere is good as is some extra labor around the house.

I do believe I have found the most effective technique and you won't be reading about it in any parenting book. The best part is I don't have to do a thing. Peer mortification by three year old brother is not only the best tool in my discipline toolbox, but I also believe you get an ab workout from laughing so hard.

Unfortunately, I missed any type of documentation of this event, but imagine if you will, 7 fourteen/fifteen year old boys sitting around having breakfast and a little three year old approaches and animatedly speaks about the topic below for a good three or four minutes using this word at least every other sentence. To see their expressions-hysterical. To see the older brother's expression-priceless.

Jack-you've been good entertainment for the last few years, but now you are really earning your keep. Thanks!!

(ETA: I couldn't get the audio file to load, so I video'd it...not the best, but at least it will make sense.)

BTW-any guesses what he is really saying? It took us a couple days to figure it out.
